The Medical Fun Facts Podcast aims to be a weekly short pithy show which delivers a few facts and maybe one or two funny lines. At least funny to me 😂🤣
Don’t expect too much and everything will be okay.
The person behind the Medical Fun Facts Podcast (MedFunFactsPod) is me (Gary Lum).
The Medical Fun Facts Podcast is not about providing personalised medical advice. A doctor-patient relationship is not being developed nor will it ever develop. If you have your own personal clinical questions please see your own medical practitioner. If you don’t have your own medical practitioner, I strongly advise you find one who you are happy with and stick with her or him.
A major theme of my professional life is a strongly held position that conventional medical practice which is evidence-based is the safest option for patients and the broader human population. I also try to be tolerant of wider views but the threshold to call out supplements complementary and alternative medicine (SCAM) including so-called integrative medicine and the broad anti-vaccination position is low.
Unlike many of my colleagues, I’m not going to engage in protracted debates about vaccination, chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopathy, homoeopathy and other forms of witchcraft. Life’s too short for that. If you oppose vaccination and have a belief in the alleged healing powers of chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopathy, and homoeopathy feel free to leave comments.
On being a public servant
I am an SES official (MO5) in the Australian Public Service (APS) and I am also employed as an honorary (that means I don’t get paid) visiting medical officer (VMO) by the ACT Government.
I will not breach the codes of conduct I’m employed under so that means I will not be podcasting/blogging about areas of work I’m close to and I will not be sharing a policy position from either the Australian Government Department of Health or the ACT Government.
The opinions I share in this podcast/blog are my own. These opinions are usually professional rather than personal and based on my medical and health-sector training.
Where else do I exist online?
I have a food blog named Yummy Lummy. I usually post weekly.
I have a diary blog named My thoughts and stuff. I usually post weekly.

What about the Squarespace site?
You may or may not be aware that I ran the podcast/blog previously from a website built with the Squarespace platform. Don’t get me wrong, Squarespace is a good website company and using Squarespace is dead easy, however, I feel more comfortable with WordPress.com and WordPress.org. I’m migrating the Medical Fun Facts Podcast (and blog) to this site for ease and convenience.
